The annual school-wide Culture Fest is putting a new spin on the event this year by adopting an island nations theme. It is set to take place on April 7 in the quad from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and it looks like its going to be figuratively and literally a trip to paradise.

Little known to the Kinkaid community, the Culture Fest community has been hard at work since the beginning of the year when they had their first meeting to establish the theme of the event. Some themes that were suggested in addition to Emma Hanan’s (11) contribution of island nations were tiny countries and the Middle East.

Nations are given to different clubs and organizations based on a first-come, first-serve basis with all clubs this year receiving their first or second choices.

Culture fest is largely run by the students on the Culture Fest Committee, head-chairs being Rikki Bleiweiss (12), Vidya Sivaramakrishnan (11), and Sita Yerramsetti (11), with the help of their faculty sponsors, Mrs. Lovett, Mrs. Wainright, Ms. Ellis, Ms. Fayard, and Mr. Emerson.

“Being on the committee is a fantastic leadership opportunity as well as a great way to contribute to the school community, so we’d strongly encourage people to join next year,” said Yerramsetti who has been on the committee for three years now.

Culture fest has blossomed into a tradition that students, faculty, and parents alike await in anticipation each year. Great (and not to mention free) food, entertainment, and cultural activities can be expected. As Kinkaid is a school filled with diverse student performers from all around the world, the entertainment portion of the event is always a crowd-pleaser.

“The two things that really define Culture Fest every year are the exposure we get to really interesting cultures that we may not always come into contact with and the sense of togetherness we experience,” said Yerramsetti.
