Courtney Whittaker has been playing lacrosse for many years. She has shown her natural athletic talent through many varsity sports since her freshman year, playing varsity volleyball, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.
On Sept. 11, Whittaker announced her verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Denver.
“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to play lacrosse at the University of Denver,” she posted on her Instagram account.
Whittaker said she found her love for the sport at a very young age and has had the dream of playing lacrosse in college since she was a middle schooler.
“I started playing lacrosse when I was 8 years old,” she said.
During the summer, Whittaker played for the American Select Lacrosse team at the 2024 premier lacrosse event that showcases elite lacrosse players from all over North America at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica, Delaware. This event took place from July 26 to July 27 this past summer. The championship games were nationally broadcast.
“She has always been a great teammate and I can’t wait to watch her play on the next level,” said Whittaker’s teammate and friend, junior Grace Essaliah.
She played for the South Coast Lacrosse club for eight years. One of the head coaches, Mrs. Beth Lester, works as Kinkaid’s lacrosse program director. She is also the director of recruiting and player development for South Coast.
“Courtney is so dedicated and hardworking. I am so proud that all of her hard work paid off,” said junior Harper Brown.
“I love my South Coast family,” Whittaker said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without South Coast and I am forever grateful for the organization.”
She said South Coast provided a community that she appreciates because some of her best friends play on the team.
Outside of lacrosse, Whittaker enjoys hanging out with her friends and family.
