The boys’ varsity soccer team took on Homeschool Christian Youth Association Jan. 31, looking to bounce back from a tough stretch in the Southwest Preparatory Conference.
With a 0-1-2 record in SPC play, the Falcons were eager to turn things around. While this match didn’t affect their SPC placing, it served as an opportunity for Kinkaid to build momentum for the future.
The Falcons delivered a dominant 4-0 victory, with freshman Dylan Jett, who plays striker, scoring a hat trick and striker and junior captain Humza Yousef adding another goal to seal the win.
“As we move forward in SPC play, this victory gives us a strong foundation on which to build. We know the competition will only get tougher, but the confidence and momentum we’ve gained will be crucial in pushing us to the next level,” head coach Diego Onuchic said.
Dylan also commented on the match.
“I kicked it, it went in, and then that happened two more times,” Dylan said.
The match was followed by celebration of the seniors on the team, which was also an important chance for players to honor their parents.
Mr. Ted Curry, Upper School history teacher and game announcer, led the senior night celebration after the game, introducing his own son senior Teddy Curry along with seniors Juanito Miranda, Jason Zhang, and Griffin Terrill. Each player was accompanied by their parents and took pictures with the coaches.
“It’s a way to show respect to your parents for supporting you through your soccer journey,” said senior Griffin Terrill.
During the ceremony, Mr. Curry shared each player’s favorite moments, coaches’ quotes, and future plans.
Onuchic talked about the seniors’ impact.
“Our team has had ups and downs throughout the course of the season, but the seniors have helped us stay focused on our goals through the difficult moments,” Onuchic said. “They have been the heart and soul of this team. Their leadership, dedication, and example have set the tone for our younger players. They’ve helped create a culture of hard work and accountability, and I’m incredibly proud of them.”
A team photo and cookies capped off the night, celebrating both the victory and the seniors’ contributions to the program.
“I want to go out on top for SPC,” said senior Teddy Curry.
