The matcha latte, a vibrant green tea powder, arrived this fall at The Falcon Fuel, a school dining destination for coffees and teas among other drinks.
“Matcha is a healthy drink with less sugar, which is why so many people order it and there’s also many different options to make the drink, like putting different types of milks and some people like putting vanilla in it as well,” said Mrs. Mercedes Campos, who works at the Falcon Fuel alongside Mrs. Dina Ramirez.
According to Ramirez and Campos, the new matcha latte has been a big hit.
Mrs. Ranirez said many students would beg Falcon Fuel for matcha lattes last year, but she and Mrs. Campos did not have the ingredients or know how to make this special drink. This year, they decided to permanently add the matcha latte to the menu.
“I just want to make the students happy and let them drink their favorite drinks,” Mrs. Ramirez said.
According to Healthline, Matcha is, in fact, very rich in antioxidants, particularly catechins, which are known to boost metabolism and promote overall health. Matcha also has various vitamins and minerals, making it an excellent choice for those looking to fuel their day with nutritious options. Especially in an environment like Kinkaid, where students are always in a hurry, matcha provides a clean energy boost without all the jitters often associated with different coffees and caffeines.
Another reason for the popularity of matcha is its unique earthy flavor.
Whether matcha is blended into a tea or a latte, it offers a refreshing alternative to sugary drinks.
At Falcon Fuel, the staff has perfected the balance of matchas natural bitterness with a mix of sweet notes, ensuring each sip is just as satisfying.
Freshman Drewsey Willson said she enjoys ordering her matcha latte with almond milk and a pump of vanilla.
“I love matcha because of its gritty texture and the at-first sweet sip turning into a bitter aftertaste,” Wilson said.
Senior Irene Capitano also loves to drink matcha regularly. She said she enjoys matcha for its milky flavor as well and loves to drink it while studying.
According to Healthline, Matcha also encourages mindfulness, a quality increasingly valued in today’s fast-paced world. It is very thoroughly enjoyed but can also have calming effects on students helping many students focus throughout the day on various tasks.
Overall, matchas health benefits, unique flavor and drinking experience contribute to its status as a fan favorite drink at Falcon Fuel whether students are looking for a mid-day boost or a moment of calm to elevate your day.
