Sophomore Thomas Smith has been named the D-BAT Sports Private School Hitter of the Week for the state of Texas after his performance during the Falcons’ three games this past week.
The Falcon varsity baseball team had a strong showing this week, going 3-0, beating St. Francis, Fort Bend Christian Academy, and out-of-conference rival St. Thomas.
Smith, leading off for the team, was a major contributor to the team’s success.
During those three games, Smith earned three singles and two doubles. Along with his five hits, Smith also showed great discipline at the plate by drawing two walks.
“I’m just trying to get everything started for the team. It was great being able to do that and see the team win,” Smith said.
With Smith being constantly on base, he gained seven runs for the team. His impact on the team was a big one, often setting the table at the top of the order and leading to the team’s success. With the three wins on the week, organizations within the state are starting to take notice.
Smith’s speed and athleticism were on display while he disrupted the opposing pitcher by swiping eight bags. It was an all-around great week for the sophomore.
“He’s just so relentless. Every day in the offseason and during practice, he is pushing himself to be better,” senior Kristopher Carlson said about his teammate.
Being recognized by Texas High School Baseball and D-BAT Sports, Smith’s name is on the map not just in the Southwest Preparatory Conference but across the state of Texas.
“As a team, we have known what Thomas is capable of, but now the whole conference and state is starting to see it,” senior Landon Layhew said.
