After much anticipation and buzz circling around about the upcoming musical, the cast list was finally released for the Upper School presentation of “The Little Mermaid.”
Directed by Mrs. K’Lynn Hocker, Upper School theatre teacher, “The Little Mermaid” was chosen for the musical for this upcoming season, in part, because of the number of students who could participate in the show.
“The best thing about this show is the abundance of opportunities to play really fun characters, which allowed us to really utilize the skills of our performers,” Mrs. Hocker stated.
Senior Ella Fox will portray the show’s beloved princess, Ariel. Her being cast in the role seems like a perfect fit, considering her princess-like voice and experience playing Ariel in the show in 8th grade at River Oaks Baptist School.
“I love all of Ariels’ songs, and getting to play her again senior year is a really full circle moment for me, and I’m so excited to bring her to life again” Fox stated.
Alongside Ella, senior Payton Daly will be portraying Ursula, and junior Maureen Min will play Ariels’ best friend, Flounder.
“I am extremely excited to be Flounder with Ella Fox as Ariel because we match each other’s energies really well, and she is a super genuine and kind friend,” Min said
Junior Irene Pletcher will be portraying Scuttle, Ariels’ segal friend on the shore. Scuttle is a difficult character to portray, given the actor has to do a challenging tap number, sing, and act.
“I’m really excited about the triple threat aspect of Scuttle, and how I have the opportunity to showcase the training I’ve had throughout my life, including at Kinkaid,” Pletcher said.
“The Little Mermaid” is filled with exciting numbers, from “Under the Sea,” an ensemble number with fun choreography, to” Les Poissons Mayhem,” a hilarious sequence of chaos starring chef Louis.
“I am most looking forward to stepping into the role of this odd and zany chef and truly unleashing my creativity to make everyone laugh and brighten their day,” said sophomore Sienna Disemmone, who will be playing the role.
