“This is my favorite time of year,” Ms. Erica Baker said. “Because I love seeing the students filled with joy.”
Ms. Baker, director of student life and engagement, was referring to homecoming, as she explained her joy of getting to organize this event every year.
There were a total of 10 candidates in the race, which included a total of five senior girls and five senior boys. The female nominees were seniors Huddle, Bess Brazelton, Emily Camp, Maddy Billipp, and Sloane Thompson. The male nominees were seniors Topher Carlson, Connor Cubbage, Gavin Johnson, Alexander Miles, and Houston Cruse.
“I strive to be a welcoming and friendly person to everyone around me, to be inclusive to all my peers, and just simply have fun,” Billip said. “It would be rewarding and I hope that I share the laughter and energy with everyone around me.”
All the male candidates on the court were football players except Miles who is in the boys’ track program.
“I believe my peers chose me for this role because of my involvement in extracurricular activities and just connecting with everyone,” said Carlson, an offensive lineman and defensive tackle on the varsity football team. “I’m involved in a lot of areas of Kinkaid, as far as being a part of the football and baseball team and being a part of the orchestra, would be reasons why I think my peers selected me.”
Ms. Baker said the highlight of her role during homecoming is working with students.
“I enjoy it when students feel happy and like they belong at a place like Kinkaid,” she said.
Brazelton, a leader of multiple committees and athlete in multiple sports, said her nomination was an honor.
“I am very honored that I was selected to be on the homecoming court and that the majority of the upper schoolers liked me enough to vote for me,” she said.
