Eyes landed on the center of Segal Field on Friday, Sept. 27 and students were buzzing with anticipation, awaiting the Homecoming king and queen announcement.
The bleachers became quiet as the homecoming court waited patiently to hear who won.
Through the loudspeaker, the names of seniors Gavin Johnson and Maddy Billipp were announced. Claps and cheers erupted from the crowd of students and parents who were in attendance at the game.
“When my name was announced, I felt so grateful and humbled because all the girls on the homecoming court are so awesome and deserving,” Billipp said. “I was so excited and had so much fun taking pictures with the rest of the court and hugging my friends and family after.”
The homecoming king had a similar experience.
“I was very surprised when I heard my name. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to be homecoming king,”Johnson said.
Billip and Johnson both received sashes and crowns. They stood in the center of the field and took photos together as the 2024 king and queen.
“I wasn’t able to celebrate for that long since I had to go back onto the football field,” Johnson said.
Billip said celebrating becoming the homecoming queen was a must.
“Hugging and shedding a couple tears with my friends and family. Also enjoying the football game with my Younglife Leaders and the dance the next day with all of my friends.” Billip said.
Joining these two seniors on segal field, the rest of the homecoming court consisted of Isabel Huddle, Bess Brazelton, Emily Camp, and Sloane Thompson for the girls and Topher Carlson, Connor Cubbage, Alexander Miles, and Houston Cruse for the boys.
Even though only one person can be crowned Homecoming Queen each year, Billip wants to make sure everyone knows that they are “so awesome and should feel like a king or queen.”
