After the Falcons defeated the Regents Knights on Sept. 6, football head coach Nathan Larned was recognized with the Coach of the Week award presented by the Texas Army National Guard.
“I mean, it’s cool, because I think it speaks to Regents, right? Because you don’t get this award for beating bad programs,” coach Larned said.
As part of the recognition, coach Larned received a commemorative football from the Texas Army National Guard Team.
“Coach Larned is a tough coach, but he is that way for a reason. He has a purpose for everything he says and does. He is the only coach I would want for the rest of my high school career,” sophomore and star running back Wayne Shanks said. “He always teaches us to go out and dominate. Regardless of the score or if you mess up a play, he just wants you to go out and give it 100% every play.”
After receiving the award, coach Larned and the Falcon’s varsity team went on to beat St. Thomas High School 27-17 on Sept. 13 after losing to the team last season. They are hoping to gain another win during the next game at home against Rockport Fulton.
With a current record of 2-1, the team is continuing to prepare for upcoming conference games, which begin Oct. 4, kicking off against St. Mark’s School of Texas. Conference games will also include challenges against The St. John’s School and Episcopal High School, two of the Falcon’s biggest rivals.
“The whole goal is to continue to get better every week,” coach Larned said. “We got to treat every week that way. And if we do, we stack a good day on top of a good day and a good week on top of a good week, then we’ll get where we want to go.”
