With over 60 clubs at Kinkaid, students can find a community within the larger community.
Students can be anxious and nervous about finding a community among the 633 high schoolers who are enrolled at Kinkaid in the 2024-25 school year.
To combat a sense of isolation, Mrs. Erica Baker, the Upper School director of student life, scheduled the school’s club fair as part of a larger event called Belonging Week.
All clubs at Kinkaid are student-led and sponsored by faculty members. This year, there are 23 new clubs, including the Basketball Club, First Aid Club and Self-Defense Club, in addition to the existing clubs that students can join.
“Clubs are important to me because they develop leadership skills and give them ownership over ideas they create,” Mrs. Baker said.
One new club, in particular, drew many students.
The Letters of Love Club was started by sophomores Dalia Karni and Sienna DeSimone, the club’s co-presidents.
Letters of Love is an international program that collects letters from people all over the world and gives them to sick children.
“Club goals are to make a certain amount of cards every day but also send out fun cards for the holidays this winter,” Karni said.
Students sign up for Falcon FC Club, one of the school’s popular sports clubs.
“The Falcon FC club helps me feel connected to other students who also enjoy soccer,” said sophomore Nathan Adler.
Students can join up to two clubs, allowing them to meet more people who have similar interests.
Clubs at Kinkaid even impact people outside of the school’s community. Their social media accounts allow other people who are not in the club to get a glimpse of the community.
Belonging Week consists of a different event every day to introduce students to different ways they can get involved on campus.
