Early this season, the Falcons have faced a grueling non-conference schedule, playing multiple 6a teams to get ready for play in the Southwest Preparatory Conference.
The Falcons have held their own in these games with dominant wins against 6a George Ranch High School, 5a Shadow Creek High School and a 10-0 shutout against Fort Bend Christian Academy.
The 2024 Kinkaid baseball team has had a promising season in its bid for a run at the SPC championship title.
Starting off SPC play this year, the Falcons faced off against St John’s. The game was close and the Falcons lost by just one run. But no confidence was lost according to players.
“We can definitely still win SPC, there are plenty of games left and we should’ve won that game,” said senior Richie Klosek.
Heading into the thick of SPC play, the Falcons got a 3-2 win against top-ranked private school program, St. Thomas, and look to continue that success in the upcoming games against future SPC conference opponents.
With a team of mostly seniors and juniors, the Falcons have looked to improve their gameplay since the season started.
The team has been led by a core of seniors, including first baseman and Loyola Marymount University commit Richie Klosek, second baseman Nico Gomez and catcher Andy Guy. Other veteran players include two juniors, pitcher Jack Paris and shortstop Cooper Chambers.
Sophomore pitchers Caleb Pitts, Carlton Walton and Jackson Setrum have proven to be solid arms in the rotation. The fastest player on the team is sophomore outfielder Matthew Guyton. These players have helped add depth to the team and a spark on the basepaths.
“I was excited to get called up to varsity this year because it was an honor to be a part of such a talented team as a sophomore,” Walton said.
The Falcons have a few more SPC games to finish the year before heading into the tournament.
