The junior varsity girls’ lacrosse team has achieved greatness on the field but also on Instagram under the “Boss Lacrosse Ladies” account.
The origin of the team’s account “Boss Lacrosse Ladies” started with now-seniors Lauren Shu and Kate Mitchell who started using Instagram to post about team game days and events. At Kinkaid it has been typical for varsity teams to have Instagram accounts but the JV girls’ lacrosse players wanted one of their own.
Shu, Mitchell and other team members devised comedic posts and their account soon became a topic of discussion across Kinkaid. Viewers got a feel for the culture of the team and enjoyed the chemistry between Shu and Mitchel, as well as their jokes.
After the 2021-22 season ended, the “Boss Lacrosse Ladies” Instagram account was passed down to juniors Bennett Bowman and Haylie George. Bowman and George were featured on the Instagram account before, but as its new leaders, they now have the responsibility to come up with and post more reels and funny pictures.
The Instagram account also has led to team-wide fun, including creating “side ponytail Friday,” where all of the teammates wore a side ponytail to practice just for fun. The account created a strong spirit among supporters of girls’ lacrosse, which has historically been a sport that has received less coverage than others.
“The team Instagram was a super fun way to bond,” sophomore Caroline Kubitza said.
Varsity member Cal Bechtol said that the team was “a fun environment to get better at lacrosse and to enjoy the team aspect of the sport.”
After the 2022-23 season, Bowman retired from her lacrosse career and George moved up to the varsity team.
“I’m so sad to leave the ‘boss lacrosse’ ladies family, but I know the account and the team are in good hands and I’m sure they’ll perform super well in future seasons,” Bowman said.
This season, the “Boss Lacrosse Ladies” Instagram account has been managed by freshmen Brooks Anderson, Charlotte McTaggart and Hadley Burrow.
