On a breezy and cloudy winter day, the girls’ varsity lacrosse team played their first scrimmage of the season at St. John’s on Feb. 17.
The lacrosse team spent their Saturday competing against teams from different schools. They were also able to strengthen their bonds with their teammates.
“I think that if we had more time to prepare, everyone would just be more comfortable with one another,” Caroline Swanson, a junior and girls’ varsity lacrosse team member, said. “Our team is still getting to know each other so it was really great to see how well we play together. We worked well together and learned so much about being a team which was the whole point of the play day.”
The team was only able to do one practice together, so preparing for the scrimmages was challenging.
“I don’t think the team was as prepared as some other teams at the play day because some of them had been practicing since September,” junior Isabel Huddle said.
They had to learn how the team worked together in only a short period of time.
“I had so much fun,” Swanson said. “This was a great experience, and I really got to know all of the underclassmen.”
The entire team was in a very competitive spirit and hoped to win against all of the other teams they played against. Even though there were parts where the team could improve on, players felt the games went well overall.
“The games were so much fun and were a great way to experience what the team chemistry will be like for the upcoming season. We had a good offensive space on the field.” Swanson said.
Swanson said there are some areas to improve on including ground balls.
“I am super proud of my team! I am so excited for what this season holds,” she said.
