Junior Eloise Klaasmeyer uses a blow torch to fire her silver clay. When she fires the silver clay all the molecules come to the middle and the clay shrinks in size and turns into a hard metal.

Class makes jewelry to support others

Juniors Marion Fertitta and Blakely Brown use a rough wooden brush and soap to scrub the remaining clay off their piece of silver. This is the last step in the process before the silver is use for a piece of jewelry.

Art assistant Ms. Lauren Quiroga tells Audrey Brown, a junior, how to set crystals into silver clay. “I have never done this before and Mrs. Q was super thorough and patient when explaining it to me," Brown said.

Hayley Alexander, sophomore, puts her sliver clay charms in a dehydrator so all the moisture gets removed and the silver can be ready for firing. Alexander said she chose to take the "Art for Others" class because she loves art and wanted to learn new styles of making it.

Ava Johnson, sophomore, starts the jewelry-making process by rolling out silver clay to imprint a design in her "Art for Others" Interim Term class. “I love 'Art for Others' because it is therapeutic and I enjoy giving back to the community,” she said.
