Kinkaid tennis on the third weekend of February, participated in the MET Tournament, a prominent high school tennis event in Houston, Texas.
In the 2026 edition on Feb. 20, Kinkaid’s girls’ team delivered standout performances.
The tournament featured boys’ and girls’ divisions in singles and doubles, segmented into Line A and Line B categories for balanced matchups. Participating schools often include The Kinkaid School, The John Cooper School, The Awty International School, St. Johns, Episcopal, St. Thomas, and St Agnes.
In line A doubles, sophomore Lana Nguyen and junior Madeline Peters claimed first place, defeating The John Cooper School.
Line B doubles saw senior Fife Famurewa and freshman Georgia Burba secure first, besting The Awty International School. Freshman Brooke Yu dominated line B singles with a convincing win over John Cooper, while senior Hannah Holmsten earned second in line A singles after a grueling battle.
“We have a strong girls’ team with three new members joining a group of returning players,” varsity coach Jennifer Kuhleman said. “I sincerely enjoyed attending the MET tennis tournament and watching all of our players on the court. They are gritty and play with such heart.”
Nguyen added perspective on the overall team momentum.
“It was so exciting seeing our team have so much success, and I’m looking forward to trying to run it back,” Nguyen said.
On the boys’ side, the Falcons showed strong competitiveness but didn’t secure any titles.
In line one doubles, senior Liam Webster and junior Kush Hingorani advanced to the finals. Junior Mateo Arnold played line one singles, and freshman Chap Young played line two. Juniors Michael Akin and Nathan Adler made the finals in line two doubles.
“We fought harder and were growing as a team,” Webster said, reflecting on the effort. “We’re gonna work hard to win SPC this year.”
Coach Kuhleman said the way the teams supported one another was impressive.
“One of the most enjoyable parts of the tournament was observing the support and camaraderie amongst both the boys’ and the girls’ teams,” Kuhleman said. “It’s rather endearing to see them cheer one another on. I am looking forward to a year of growth and wins – on and off the court.”
The tournament was hosted at The Downtown Club at The Met, a premier facility boasting 10 indoor tennis courts and three pickleball courts.
