A new softball dugout has been a long-awaited improvement, ushering in a new chapter for the softball team as old memories will be complemented by fresh ones.
The softball team recently received upgraded dugouts and a new outfield fence after damage sustained by a fallen tree between the right and center field during Hurricane Beryl, leaving the previous structure in disrepair.
“I’m really excited about the new field improvements, and I’m sure the players will love them too,” said head softball coach Ms. Haley Outon. “I believe these upgrades will make them feel valued.”
The updated facility features brick dugouts and a combination of brick and padded backstops, creating a more polished and professional look. The new black fencing enhances the overall aesthetic, further elevating the field’s appearance.
“It’s a massive improvement from the facilities we had beforehand, and that brick dugouts look cleaner, and the new fence is nice,” added sophomore softball player Haley Wainright.
The upgrades made a strong impression on the players, with each one noting the significant improvements in the overall feel of the field and the impact it will have on their experience.
“The dugout is nice, and overall, it matches the school with the brick. The old dugout was never clean; now, it will be much more clean and comfortable,” said junior Kacey Harvin. “Our old fence was not good and would break all the time, but the new fence is sturdy and much better.”
Coach Outon said she believes the upgrades will inspire the team.
“These improvements will get the team excited and proud to be a part of the softball program,” she said. “We are so grateful to have received a facelift and look forward to hosting our opponents and putting on a show for our fans and community.”
The recent improvements reflect the physical transformation of the softball field and a shift in the team’s momentum and spirit. With the new upgrades, the players now have a space that mirrors their commitment and dedication to the game.
“This is the first time in a while that the softball facilities have been updated, and it is nice to know that the school cares about a sport I love,” she said.
