Book Fair has always been a time for the school’s community to come together as a big family
“The reason why I like the Book Fair so much is because it is an activity that involves the entire Kinkaid community with lower, middle, and upper school students and teachers,” librarian Lakeisha Branch said.
With over 100 parent volunteers, Book Fair will once again bring new editions, food, and visiting authors
An alumni from Kinkaid who graduated in 2012, Kate McMillan will be visiting this year to showcase her books along with Candace Fleming to speak with Upper School classes.
Author Candace Fleming writes a wide variety of books catered to several different audiences including children’s books and young adult series. Fleming wrote more than forty different books and serves as a talented and versatile author.
Book fair brings several different authors to speak with students. We have so many talented writers who come to share their stories and ideas with the Kinkaid community.
Candace Fleming and Kate McMillan are just two of many authors visiting Kinkaid, there will be many more authors to come visit than any other year this time at Book Fair.
Besides new authors, there will also be a new boutique located at the upper level of the Ogilvie lobby that will be more organized this year with pre-orders being placed so the stock doesn’t run out for families who come after family night.
Family night dinner will be held on Sunday, November 10. It will be a great time to shop for books and the boutique, and it is accompanied by Moderno Tex-mex this time and the loved crepe cupcakes desserts which come back each year.
This year’s young adult section will be plentiful as several orders of different young adult books will be available. Librarian Lakeisha Branch also said, “I am the most excited to shop in the Young Adult section this year for my favorite Mystery books.”
Also in the Young Adult section, is Malcolm Gladwell’s books The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference and Revenge of the Tipping Point: Overstories, Superspreaders, and the Rise of Social Engineering. The Tipping Point explains modern day sociology and how ideals, ideologies, and rumors spread through society like wildfire or an ‘Epidemic’ as Malcolm Gladwell explains.
Malcolm Gladwell will also be coming to the Upper school to speak with the students about his new book during an assembly.
New Book Fair editions keep coming year after year creating a better space, experience, and learning opportunities for the Kinkaid community as a whole and this year’s Book Fair is no exception.
